Raktamokshana (Wet Cupping/ Hijama) derives its name from Rakta meaning 'blood' and mokshana meaning 'liberation'. This treatment literally 'releases' impure blood from the system. It involves making small incisions on the skin to draw out a small amount of blood after suction is applied. It is deeply rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Unani medicine, and Islamic medicine, where it has been practiced for centuries for detoxification, pain relief, and overall health improvement. Unlike dry or fire cupping, wet cupping aims to remove stagnant blood, toxins, and inflammatory substances from the body to restore balance and enhance circulation.
When Hijama blood is examined, it was found to have abdominal Red blood cells, Hypo Chromic cells, Burr cells, Target cells, high total iron binding capacity (TIBC) high creatinine level were found. Burr cells are regarded as “Aged”.
